Cadmium red deep is an essential hue in watercolor, prized for its richness, opacity, and strength. It is an intense pigment, often used to create deep and warm reds. This pigment is ideal for subjects such as flowers, autumn landscapes, or portraits requiring warm and saturated tones. Dark Cadmium Red is extremely permanent, non-granulating, and its high opacity allows for detailed work. Mix it with Cobalt Blue to achieve deep and subtle purples. Combined with Cadmium yellow light or Isaroyellow light, you get vibrant oranges, perfect for sunsets or autumn foliage. With Burnt Umber, you can create earthy, natural reddish-browns, ideal for shadows and organic textures. Emerald Green allows for interesting contrasts or colored grays.

Cadmium pigment was discovered in the early 19th century, but it wasn't until the end of the century that it became available as paint. Cadmium, used for its unique chemical properties, quickly gained popularity for its brightness and stability. Cadmium red deep, in particular, provided artists with a more intense and durable alternative to unstable natural reds (such as madder or carmine) used previously.

This shade contains cadmium; its use in watercolor is safe under normal conditions (do not ingest).
